HMMWV run flat inserts. Built for the fleet that never stopped needing them.
The M998 family has carried troops for four decades, and its wheels still run on run flat inserts. The Toota Group supplies segmented antiballistic polymer inserts built to NSN 2640-01-419-6202 as an alternate item — field-serviceable, quoted and built to order. CAGE 93ST9. We are not the approved source of supply; we are the alternate.
Every M-series wheel rides on an insert.
From the baseline cargo carrier to the up-armored M1114 and M1151, the HMMWV's two-piece wheel runs a run flat insert between the rim and the tire. When the tire loses air — ballistic strike, IED fragment, rock damage — the insert becomes the load path. The vehicle keeps moving.
- Fits the M998 family: M1123, M1097A2, M1114, M1151, M1152A1, M1165
- Keeps the bead locked at speed after deflation
- 31 miles (50 km) mobility at reduced speed
- FMS-eligible: we ship domestic and allied fleets
Total air loss, rim on the insert, bead seated — and the truck keeps its pace. The Toota Group insert under load.

The system in motion — and the assembled insert itself, ready to ship.
A HMMWV rolling on a destroyed rear tire across hard sand — the run flat insert carries the load, the rim stays round. Our render of the system in action.
Static RunFlat for multi-piece wheel assemblies.
Three pieces beat the solid ring.
Solid one-piece inserts need a hydraulic press to fit, degrade from heat during run-flat operation, and often end up single-use. Segmented polymer changes the math for a motor pool:
| Factor | Segmented Polymer (ours) | Solid One-Piece Insert |
|---|---|---|
| Weight per wheel | ✓ ~15% lighter — less unsprung mass | Heaviest option, 90–200 lbs |
| After a deflation event | ✓ Inspect, swap damaged segments, re-use | Heat degradation — often replace whole insert |
| Deployment logistics | ✓ Segments stack flat, ship lighter | Bulk shipping, heavy handling |
The grease is part of the system.
During run-flat operation the tire tread rides directly on the insert. The right lubricant keeps friction and heat down through the mobility window. We supply purpose-built run flat grease in the same NSN line the fleet already buys: tube NSN 2640-01-419-6200 (one per tire at installation) and 55-gallon drum NSN 2640-01-457-5552 for fleet-level maintenance.
What a Fleet Order Looks Like
- Insert kit: NSN 2640-01-419-6202 (1 per wheel)
- Lubricant — pick ONE: tub (52 oz), tube NSN 2640-01-419-6200, or 55-gal drum NSN 2640-01-457-5552 — recommended 4 tubes (46 oz) per 16.5" HMMWV tire
